I still recall getting my very first G.I.Joe and what led up to the circumstances. 

I was 4 years old in 1982, my brother, who is older than I, would not let me play with his Star Wars figures. My dad, I believe out of desperation to get us to stop bickering, took me to ALCO (this was a department store in Portales, New Mexico) and told me to select a toy of my own. I wondered the toy aisle briefly before I ended up in front of the G.I.Joes. I sat there mulling over the decision of which one to pick for what felt like forever! I finally ended up picking a straight armed version of Zap, with the 2 handed bazooka! I had to wait until we got home to open him. I promptly sat down at the kitchen table, opened him up, and broke his thumb trying to get him to hold his bazooka. 

This is also one of my earliest childhood memories!
